Village BBQ - 09th June 2023

Following on from last month’s highly successful Coronation Hog Roast, the (RA) served up their annual BBQ on Friday the 9th June and once more friends and neighbours turned out in record numbers to enjoy good food and good company.

Residents enjoy the sunshine

Once more the weather helped and although the day started cloudy, the sun burst out once the BBQ started and the residents of our two hamlets made the most of a warm balmy evening. Over 85 adults and children arrived on the lawn outside of the Village Hall and found a well stocked bar manned by RA Chairman, Dave Smith and willing helper, Paul Donovan. Whilst thirsts were quenched head chef Phil Davies, ably assisted by Clare Donovan and newest RA committee member Nicky Dibbo, got on with cooking of the delicious burgers and sausages.

The children played and neighbours caught up with each other whilst enjoying a pre prandial drink. Meanwhile salads were prepared, rolls sliced, plates and napkins set out and at 6 o’clock the food was served. Once the ‘main course’ was over platters of brownies, cookies and the healthy option, fresh strawberries, were brought out to be consumed with much relish by young and old alike.

As the sun started to set over the western horizon behind Wellers Cottage, the residents gradually drifted away until there were a few hardy souls enjoying last orders. But with darkness looming at 10:00 pm the RA had to call time and clear up before a children’s birthday party on the lawn the following day.

Delicious Deserts

Many thanks to all those who helped to make the annual BBQ a fantastic evening, which once more reinforced what a great community we have in our area.
