Village BBQ - 07th June 2024
Following on from the very successful village BBQ last year another record crowd of 76 adults and 13 children turned up to enjoy good food and good company at this year’s annual event.
Residents enjoy the sunshine
Once more the weather helped and although the day was overcast it stayed dry and the sun burst out every so often from behind the clouds, to remind us it was supposed to be summer. That meant of course the event could be held on the lawn besides the Village Hall, where residents found a well stocked bar manned by RA Chairman, Dave Smith and willing helper, Tom Greenham. Whilst thirsts were quenched head chef Phil Davies, ably assisted by new RA committee member Charlie Lacey, got on with the cooking of the delicious burgers and sausages.
The children played and neighbours caught up with each other whilst enjoying a pre prandial drink. Meanwhile salads were prepared, rolls sliced, plates and napkins were set out by Clare Donovan, Nicky Dibbo, Liz Tweddle and Angela Collis and at 6 o’clock the food was served. Once the ‘main course’ was over the desert of choc ices was brought out to be consumed with much relish by young and old alike.
As the sun started to set over the western horizon behind Wellers Cottage, the residents gradually drifted away until there were a few hardy souls enjoying last orders. But with darkness looming the RA eventually had to call time and clear up whilst they could just about see what was going on.
Many thanks to all those who helped to make the annual BBQ a fantastic evening, which once more reinforced what a great community we have in our area.
