Rock 'n Roll Bingo - 08th March 2024
Friday 8th March saw over 60 residents in the Village Hall for the Residents’ Association’s Spring social event. An ever popular Music Bingo night.

When everyone was settled in with drinks in hand, Chairman of the RA, Dave Smith, explained the rules. The bingo score cards had the titles of songs plus the artist / group in the squares where the numbers would be found in a normal game of bingo. Dave would play a series of 30 second clips and if you recognised the song or artist then you crossed off that square. The first person to cross off all 15 squares would win a big prize. If during the game a player managed to cross off two complete horizontal lines, then they could claim a smaller prize. Simple really, or so Dave thought.
Dave Smith tries to explain the rules!
With pens poised Dave started the first round. About half way through there was a claim for a small prize but somehow the words ‘complete’ or ‘horizontal’ seem not to have been heard and Dave had to send the claimant away empty handed. This was to occur several times throughout the evening, making the quizmaster wonder what he had said wrong!
Eyes down for a Bingo
Despite these hiccoughs winners of the first and second rounds emerged and then it was time for food. Platters of cold meats, olives, cheese, humous, tomatoes, pickles and baskets of bread were brought out for everyone to feast on. And what a feast it was. Naturally there was also time for the odd glass or two to be refilled. The bar was kept busy throughout the evening.
Tucking into the food
After the repast it was back to the bingo. By now everyone was getting the hang of it and really enjoying singing along with the music clips. The RA did not charge extra for the karaoke.
A very happy winner
When all the prizes were won, Dave thanked all the volunteers who had helped make the evening such a great success. Angela Collis (the RA’s financial wizard), Phil Davies, Paul Donovan and Tom Greenham (who manned the bar), Clare Donovan and Lizz Tweddle who prepared the food. It was a great team effort and obviously enjoyed by the residents, many of whom stayed on afterwards to chat with friends and neighbours over a glass of something.
