Quiz Night - 18th October 2024
For its annual Autumn event the Residents’ Association (RA) decided to hold a quiz night as it was five years since we ran the last one. Given there is the American Presidential election in November we decided to run an American themed quiz.

48 residents turned up to test out their little grey cells and to socialise in between the rounds. Friends divided themselves into teams of anything from three up to the max of eight people. Quizmaster, Dave Smith, explained there would be six rounds on various subjects plus a picture round and a Disney dingbat round. Jokers could be played on the first six rounds which would double the score for that round.

Quizmaster Dave Smith explains the format
Everyone settled down, ensured they were well refreshed from the bar, nibbled on the American styled pretzels and attempted to answer the first three sets of questions on American history, entertainment and sport. Some did better than others.
There then followed a break for food. Texan tacos and chilli con carne with all the trimmings and for those who were still hungry, chocolate brownies for pudding. The food which was all prepared and cooked by the RA was delicious and there were nothing but compliments from the contestants.
Then it was time to carry on with geography, politics (no mention of Trump or Harris!) and pot luck.
Finally there was a timed picture round of famous American monuments. It was then time to complete the marking, including the dingbats and to declare the winners. In the end there was one clear winning team, “They are eating the dogs”, aka The Wingates, who were presented with a large box of chocolates.
Thanks to the members of the RA who all worked tremendously hard to put on the event which was appreciated by all who took part and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
