Pub Games - 22nd Oct 2022

The Residents’ Association’s Autumn social event, an evening of traditional pub games, proved to be a real hit with the 35 adults and 18 children who arrived at the Village Hall on Sat 22nd October. The RA hired in four traditional games, shove halfpenny, bar skittles, shuffle board and by far the most popular, a skittle alley.

Children from as young as two up to those of teenage years spent most of the evening ‘bowling’ the balls down the alley. This did lead to a somewhat noisy time as the thud of the wooden balls, dropping with some force onto the wooden alley floor, echoed throughout the hall.

The Skittle alley proved to be a smash hit

Meanwhile the parents and those sans children chatted away to each other and helped out with the bar profits.

A delicious finger buffet was prepared and served up by committee members Laura Lord and Clare Donovan. Nobody went home hungry, that was for sure.

Eventually it was time for the younger ones to depart, which of course, meant that the adults who had been hanging back could now get their hands on the games. It was billed as a fun evening, but that did not stop some very competitive play until late in the evening!

Financially, due to the cost of hiring in the equipment and not charging an entrance fee for the under 12s,  the event did not make much money for the RA. But that was never the intention of the evening. The aim was to bring the residents together, to meet new neighbours and to have some fun. In that it succeeded totally.
