Spanish Night - 13th Oct 2023
Fiesta Time in Crazies Hill. The RA’s Autumn social event was held on 13th Oct in the Village Hall with a Spanish themed evening. 58 Residents came along to enjoy themselves and were welcomed into a festively bedecked hall, with Spanish music playing in the background and a complimentary glass of Cava from the Valencia region.
Residents enjoy the ambiance
Neighbours and guests mingled and caught up with the latest village happenings whilst nibbling on nachos and salsa and imbibing various red and white Spanish wines or beer from Madrid. For those whose taste in beer does not run to the exotic, we also had Rebellion IPA on offer.
Chris cooks the paella
The main course had to be paella, and this was cooked by professional chef Chris O’Neill, the events director at ManWithAPan. Despite torrential rain whilst Chris was setting up outside the Village Hall, he produced a choice of chicken and chorizo, seafood and vegetarian paella. All of which were delicious. Due to the inclement weather the salad and artisan bread selections were set up inside for residents to help themselves.
Delicious paella
Whilst everyone tucked into the food, including a desert of Spanish biscuits and pastries, they also engaged the use of their little grey cells by trying to answer the Spanish themed quiz which had been set by RA Chairman, Dave Smith. There was no prize for the winners of the quiz, except for bragging rights within Crazies Hill and Cockpole Green, but that did not stop the fierce competition which ensued between the various tables.
Dave gave out the answers at the end of the evening and the table hosted by residents John & Irene Ladd, Lynne Wilkes and Neil Palmer, Brian and Judy Robson and their friends from Canada, Sue andDale, was declared the winner.
The winning table
The roaring success of the evening can be measured by the lateness of the departure of the last guests. Many thanks to the RA committee members who put in all the hard work to make the evening such a success and who came back the next morning to clear everything up.
