Wine Tasting 26th March 2022

Fortunately for the 35 residents who signed up for the Wine Tasting event at the end of March, all coronavirus restrictions were lifted a couple of weeks before the planned date and everyone could mingle freely on the night in question. The last time the RA ran a wine tasting was in 2014 and so there were plenty of newcomers to our hamlets who had not attended such a function before.

Villagers met up for the wine tasting

The wines were chosen and supplied by Gavin Whitmee who runs the local Purplefoot Wine Company (http://www.purplefoot.co.uk/) . There were three wites ( a White Rioja, French Sauvignon Blanc, Italian Gavi) and three reds (Argentinian Malbec, French Pinot Noir, Italian Appassimento). A real eclectic mix.

The wines were sampled and enjoyed by all

Tables were set up to seat six people and guests who were not in large parties join fellow residents to make up the tables. As there was a bottle of each wine per table then it didn’t take long for everyone to relax and get to know one another or catch up with long standing friends.

There was plenty of food to go with the wine

Whilst everyone was sampling the various wines delicious boards of cold meats and cheese were prepared by committee members Laura Lord, Sue Robinson and Clare Donovan.

The conclusion at the end of a long evening was the favourite white was the Rioja and the favourite red was the Appassimento. The success of the evening was probably measured in the lateness of the departure of the last guest, which ws very late!

Many thanks to all those who helped out on the night. Without them the event could not have taken place.
